Hi, I’m Sam Lam—and if you’re feeling stuck, exhausted, or emotionally disconnected in your relationship with your child, please know this: you’re not alone. I see how hard you’re trying, and how deeply you long to connect with your child—but something keeps getting in the way. Maybe it’s a feeling like you’re not good enough… or the belief that showing your emotions makes you weak. Maybe you’re stuck in patterns you don’t even realize are there—old coping mechanisms from your past that once kept you safe, but now make it hard to truly connect with your child.
I help parents and children who are caught in these painful cycles—who want to love each other better but don’t know how. Using humanistic approaches like Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Play Therapy, and Solution-Focused-Brief Therapy (SFBT), I support my clients in staying present with their emotions and learning how to feel them, express them, and heal through them. Together, we create a safe, compassionate space where you can begin to let go of self-protection and start connecting with your true self—and with the people you love most.
In our work together, clients often find they can finally put words to what they’ve felt for so long. They begin to share emotions that reflect their real experiences, instead of staying behind a psychological shield. That’s when healing begins. That’s when relationships shift.
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master’s degree in Counselling and over a decade of experience working with children, teens, and families. I’ve supported individuals navigating everything from parent-child conflicts, perfectionism, and low motivation, to learning differences and neurodivergence, including ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia. I also have a strong background in trauma-informed care, and I offer counselling in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
Whether you’re a parent who feels overwhelmed, a teen who feels misunderstood, or a family that’s struggling to reconnect—I’m here to help you find your way back to each other with warmth, courage, and compassion.
Let’s take that first step together.

Hi I’m Ryan.
For the past 17 years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with first responders, including nurses and police officers—supporting them through stress, trauma, addiction, and everything in between. I’ve also volunteered with the Crisis Centre for three years, walking alongside people through everything from daily overwhelm to moments of acute crisis. These experiences have taught me the deep value of listening, understanding, and showing up with compassion.
Now, as a supervised intern at Grigore Counselling & Associates, I work with teens, adults, and couples who are ready to quiet their inner critic, ease anxiety, and feel more present and connected in their lives. Whether you’re facing big life transitions or just trying to make sense of the daily mental noise, you don’t have to do it alone. Together, we’ll build tools for setting healthy boundaries, communicating with confidence, and navigating challenges with more clarity and calm.
I offer sessions both in-person and online, and as a student counsellor, my work is supported by the guidance of Founder & Clinical Director, Robert Grigore MCP, RCC, so you can feel secure in receiving thoughtful, layered care. If you’re ready to take the first step toward feeling more like yourself again (or meeting that version of you for the first time), I invite you to book a free 20-minute consultation. I’d be honoured to support you on your journey.
Fun Fact About Me: I love science fiction as well as musicals, but probably not together.

One of the deepest challenges I strive to overcome is the disconnection many clients feel from themselves, their histories, and their sense of meaning—especially those impacted by forced displacement, intergenerational trauma, and systemic marginalization. Often, these individuals have been silenced, pathologized, or treated as problems to be fixed rather than people with rich inner lives and complex stories.
My solution is to create a therapeutic space rooted in compassion, cultural humility, and relational depth. I integrate transpersonal psychology, somatic practices, CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care to help clients reconnect with their inner resources, cultural strengths, and embodied wisdom. This approach honors not only their individual healing journeys, but also the collective stories and resilience they carry.
As a result, therapy becomes more than symptom reduction—it becomes a space for reclaiming voice, dignity, and purpose. Clients begin to feel grounded, seen, and empowered to shape new narratives for themselves, their families, and future generations.
As a clinical counselor, my work is deeply informed by years of supporting individuals and communities impacted by displacement, intergenerational trauma, and systemic oppression. I have had the privilege of working with refugee clients, racialized communities, and youth in both Canada and the United States, where I have come to understand that healing must be culturally grounded, relational, and rooted in dignity.
My approach integrates trauma-informed care, anti-oppressive practice, and transpersonal psychology. I draw on somatic practices, narrative therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions to support clients in reconnecting with themselves and building meaningful paths forward. I believe that therapy is not just about addressing symptoms but about honoring the whole person—their body, story, spirit, and social context.
In every therapeutic relationship, I strive to co-create a space of safety and curiosity, where clients feel empowered to explore their pain, resilience, and hope. Whether I’m working with a young person navigating systemic barriers or an elder processing grief and legacy, I meet each client where they are, with compassion and cultural sensitivity.
My experience as a clinical counselor has taught me that healing is not linear, but it is possible—especially when clients feel seen, respected, and accompanied on their journey.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy writing poetry, meditation, dance, music, walking, biking, hiking, volunteering, and conducting acts of kindness. I am also obsessed with the etymology of the words in several languages, especially ancient languages including English, Latin, Greek, Persian, and Sanskrit.
“You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the ocean in a drop”–Rumi.
